Interview

Interview
Think about it for a moment.  What drives the dicisions of your life? Most of the time we are driven more out of emotion rather than mathmatical analytical numbers.

And what makes people remember you or what you told them?

The way that you did it.

You can either leave a legacy in someones mind or literally make them abandon you forever – in a moments time.  Some scientists say we have 30 seconds to prove our value.

So I think it’s very important, and this is maybe the most understood part of interviewing or giving presentations is the story. Everyone’s focused on “tell the story.” And let’s maybe drop back and think about story a little bit, from our ancestors’ perspective. Our ancestors evolved to live in groups, hunter-gatherers. And they had to make sense of increasingly complex social relationships. They started living in communities, and living in a community requires keeping tabs on who the group members are and what they’re doing and how they relate. And this is why storytelling developed. This is how we developed the skill of storytelling.

There are a couple reasons why you tell a story, and it’s not what you think. It’s not so people understand your product, and it’s not so people like you, and it’s not to build emotional rapport.

There are much more effective ways to do these 2 things. We talked about many of them in Framing. In a business setting, a narrative has four purposes. We’ll talk about one of them right now. Number one, narrative transport, narrative transport. The reason I will tell a story in a business meeting is that somebody else can repeat that story when I’m gone. That’s the job of a story, might be the number-one job. Nobody doing business deals, or in large economic transactions, is hardly ever able to make a decision on their own. They have to hear what you’re talking about and go tell it to other people.

I am talking about business meetings and transactions because that is what an interview is.  An interview is a pitch and once you get your frame of mind around the fact that you are pitching yourself – you view the whole skybound process in a better way.  You are like a startup founder – pitching for millions of dollars.  Except you are going to be a flight attendant – pitching for the career of a lifetime and a dream for many of you – come true.

The harsh reality is this…

Look, there are thousands of girls and guys interviewing every week.  Standing out isn’t enough, you have to leave an impression.  An emotional empression that will last in the minds of the HR department in the same way your greatest influence has left in yours.  If you fail to leave an impression during your pitch, your interview – whatever you want to call it – you will lose.

Trust me, I have been there.

Read: Harvard Business Review – Why Your Brain Loves Good Story Telling

I went through 7 interviews, it was tough.  I wasn’t good at it.  However, I was resiliant.  You know the type of resilance that never quits but is determined to get better.  This is how I shaped what is now Skybound.  It is years of failing and learning, destroying and building, experimenting and growing.

It is your opportunity to skip the years of failure – learn from past mistakes and leave that lasting impression on the HR department the moment you step foot into that office.

Ever dream of becoming a flight attendant?

Skybound Online Flight Attendant Simulator

Did you know that market research shows that over 9,000,000 young men and women want to become flight attendants in Indonesia alone?

Add to that the fact that less than 1% pass their interview and you have quite a few unhappy Indonesian’s to say the least.  When we created our ultimate pramugari interview accelerator course – we interviewed over 100 flight attendants and HR professionals to find out why.

We used that information to create Indonesia’s most robust online learning system for passing pramugari interviews.   However, today we want to share with you a few questions that if not answered correctly – could cost you that dream job.

1.  What are the general duties of a flight attendant?  Hint: There are a minimum of 10 they want to hear.

2. You are a flight attendant, and there are fewer entertainment possibilities than previously planned.  What do you do?

3. Why should we hire you?  Hint: This question is psychologically played, so focus on them – not you.

4. Do you have any questions?  Tip: Say “no” and say “bye-bye” to your job.

5. What experience do you have already in this field?  Hint: This sounds very general however many of you reading this will know that you don’t have any.  In fact, that is probably why you are reading this right now.
